Dee RoeA New Place
Oars dip, rise,
beyond the glitter and
curve of sandy beach,
the incandescent pools
where what darts below
sends shadows that
stain the surface of the water.The fiery leaves let go,
fly like abandoned prayers
from the stilted trunks of trees.
We too were formed here
by how we lived into each other.This season is done;
we have buried the blazing sky
in the deep blue of the lake.
I am rowing,
with long sure strokes,
to the other side.
