"The Sinking Ship" by Mark Bryan

Angel Look

Rapture of the Deep

Underneath waves

under silver pelts issuing

undulating invitations

you go down

below

beneath

then further than light reaches

clearly this is too far

still you swim

tanks full of confidence

dive deeper

alone now

the others have all gone

having retained their

sensibilities

the water nymphs have found you

the nixies and mermaids

swim spirals around your limbs

your head

your hands are tangled

with their seaweed strands

you can no longer feel

benumbed

you swim in hypnotic circles

anesthetic stupor becomes

euphoria

you are in love with this dark place

float insensible

forget you have no gills
