Srinjay Chakravarti

Hills of White Horses

on the sand,
strands of spittle
abandoned by the ocean's lips:

time's spoondrift, perfumed,
sprays its atomizer
on moons scarred by tides.

trawling the waves,
casting their silver nets
traceried with coconut frondage,

their boats slick with starlight,
bare-bodied fishermen drag
their catch seined with sleepless nights

up a terrain of foam and wind
to the summit of purple thunderheads.
